Class Descriptions

Ages 3-4
Combo Class
Our 3-4 Combo Classes are a fun and lighthearted introduction to dance for our youngest dancers. Ballet terminology and movement is taught, along with other foundational motor skills such as hopping, skipping, jumping, and balancing. Faculty also teach and emphasize the importance of classroom behavior such as listening, following directions, and remembering instructions. Creative movement is also an integral part of these classes.

Dancers perform one ballet routine in our annual Spring Recital.

Ages 5-6
Combo Class
Our 5-6 Combo Classes feature instruction in both ballet and jazz and is suitable for dancers who have danced before or for those just beginning. Faculty review and practice ballet terminology, and then use those skills to begin teaching basic jazz technique. This includes turning, leaping, and kicking. Faculty also emphasize appropriate classroom behavior and build upon interactive classroom skills by utilizing call/response, group work, and allowing room for creative input amongst the group.

Hip Hop Class
Our 5-6 Hip Hop Classes are an introduction to a groovy, stylized, and popular form of dance. This class is recommended for dancers who are looking for a high-energy outlet! Dancers learn routines to upbeat music and focus on hip hop fundamentals such as footwork, popping, waving, and syncopation. Classes also incorporate activities that allow for individual creativity of movement.

Acro for Dancers

Our Acro for Dancers classes combine classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. Taught on the mat, dancers will train their strength, flexibility, and control to perform dance related tricks and extensions.This is a great way for dancers to become stronger and more flexible as they grow in their training in all areas of dance. All class curriculum uses safe and age appropriate skills.

Dancers perform one acro routine in our annual Spring Recital.

Ages 7-8
Combo Class
Our 7-8 Combo Classes feature instruction in both ballet and jazz. Faculty build upon basic ballet terminology by taking center exercises to the ballet barre. Jazz technique introduced includes a new variety of turns, leaps, and jumps. Faculty work with dancers to train both the right and left side correctly, and flexibility training is also introduced.

Hip Hop Class
Our 7-8 Hip Hop Classes are great for high-energy dancers! Dancers learn routines to upbeat music and build upon basic hip hop fundamentals such as footwork, popping, and waving. Group work is utilized in routines, and dancers will learn a new, short routine every week. Our goal with our hip hop classes is to allow room for creative self-expression and incorporate confidence building activities into class each week.

Acro for Dancers

Our Acro for Dancers classes combine classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. Taught on the mat, dancers will train their strength, flexibility, and control to perform dance related tricks and extensions.This is a great way for dancers to become stronger and more flexible as they grow in their training in all areas of dance. All class curriculum uses safe and age appropriate skills.

Ages 9-11
Combo Class
Our 9-11 Combo Classes feature instruction in both ballet and jazz. Faculty introduce new ballet barre and across the floor combinations weekly that emphasize turns, leaps, and jumps. Flexibility training is incorporated into every class, and dancers alternate learning a new ballet or jazz combo weekly. Lyrical dance is also introduced in this class and is incorporated into the dancers’ ballet training.

Dancers will perform a ballet/lyrical routine and a jazz routine in our annual Spring Recital.

Hip Hop Class
Our 9-11 Hip Hop Classes are always vibrant and full of life. Dancers learn a new, short routine weekly in class and also practice hip hop technique across the floor that challenges and builds coordination and body awareness. The concept and importance of musicality is also introduced and emphasized. Our goal with our hip hop classes is to allow room for creative self-expression and incorporate confidence building activities into class each week.

Teens
Ballet Class
Our Teen Ballet Class focuses on perfecting ballet posture and performance. Proper alignment and muscle use is the main focus via utilization of barre work, center adagio, petite allegro, and across the floor.

Jazz Class
Our Teen Jazz Class Faculty exposes dancers to a variety of jazz styles by teaching new, short routines each week. Dancers also work on improving turn, leap, and jump technique and coordination. Advanced skills such as multiple pirouette rotations, second turns, unique leaps and jumps, and battement combinations are introduced and perfected. Flexibility training is also incorporated into every class.

Lyrical Class
Our Teen Lyrical Class focuses solely on lyrical technique and performance. Dancers learn how to use their body in a way that tells a story, all while making movements and choreography appear effortless. Each week, faculty will introduce new, short routines with which dancers will learn and experiment. Challenging transitional and floor work is also introduced.

Hip Hop Class
Our Teen Hip Hop Class is one of our most popular classes at the studio! Faculty incorporate advanced footwork, popping, waving, and syncopation along with group work for an exciting challenge. Musicality is taught and emphasized, and dancers also have the opportunity to create choreography and practice teaching to others.

This is Studio A

For nearly 20 years, Studio A Dance Co. has been a leader in dance education in the Quad Cities. With a state of the art, 16,000 square foot facility, a top notch faculty, and limited class sizes, Studio A provides a safe, inspiring environment for kids to learn and create.

Studio A Dance Co. is home to an incredible faculty which includes credits such as the University of Illinois Champaign Urbana B.A. of Dance Program, University of Arizona B.A of Dance Program, Joffrey Ballet Summer Intensive, Northwestern University Summer Intensive, Captain of the University of Iowa Dance Team, Member of the nationally ranked Iowa State Dance Team, UDA Instructor. The Studio A faculty has over 200 combined years of performing and teaching experience, ensuring a consistent, professional, and positive experience.

Studio A prides itself on its family friendly atmosphere. We strive to instill values and discipline in a fun and safe environment where students can express themselves through dance. We encourage dancers to find what gifts they have as an individual, as well as what they can achieve as a team.

Dancers at the studio are able to excel in the areas of Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, and Contemporary, through weekly classes. All classes have age appropriate material and music, and are geared towards correct technical placement and expression. We hope you will join us!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Combo Classes ages 3-4 will be required to purchase one recital costume, a ballet.

    Combo Classes Ages 5 and Up will be required to purchase 1 recital costume but will perform two routines in our recital, a jazz and a ballet.

    Each hip hop class will have one recital costume

    Each Teen Class will have one recital costume.

    Costumes have an average cost of $70 each. This will be the only required additional cost for the year.

    Studio A does not have a recital fee, however, recital tickets do need to be purchased for $15 each.

  • Please check your email and our facebook page for any weather cancellations. Please know that we absolutely love teaching your kids and having to cancel class is frustrating to us as a studio. However, the safety of our families and staff has to be a priority and when weather causes unsafe conditions, sometimes we have to make that difficult decision to close.Unfortunately, cancelations for weather are just part of living in Iowa.There will be no refunds for classes missed due to weather. Please remember that your tuition payments go toward not only your dance classes, but to many other things that allow us to make Studio A a great experience. We thank you for your understanding and your trust in us that we will only close when absolutely necessary.

  • We greatly appreciate a call to let us know if your dancer will not be attending class. As a result of COVID, make up classes will not be permitted in an effort to keep the mixing of students to a minimum. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Studio A requires one month's notice of class cancellation. To cancel, please send a drop request via your parent portal. Cancellations will not be taken over the phone or in person, only online.
